Aetna, which is a Hartford Connecticut based insurance company has collaborated with Apple and announced that they will be coming up with a wellness application. This is the application that both the companies have been working on for almost close to three years. It is expected that this application will be launched in the spring of 2019.
According to CNBC:
“There will be a total of 300,000 subscribers in the initial stages. It is expected that there will be a total of 22 million customers who will be using this application on their Apple watch. The application will not be targeting only the senior people, but people of all age groups.”
In the month of January in 2019 Cupertino, which is based in California center of Apple was in discussions with a few of the private Medicare plans about their products of the smartwatch. Initially, Attain will not be made available to Aetna’s members due to all the members and all the regulatory issues. It is expected that they will be available later on. This shows that all the large companies which are working in the insurance sector are seeing a lot of potential in the smart wearable industry and therefore, a lot of money is being invested in developing fitness applications for Apple watch.
If users want to take part in the Attain, then they will require to have an iPhone 5s or later and an Apple Watch. If they do not have both then they will not be able to participate in it. This application will be available at a monthly rate like all the other phone companies and it will help in subsidizing the purchase of iPhone.
The program that will be offered will come with a customizable wellness program which will be all set depending on the age, weight, sex, and medical history of the person. Users will be able to get different notifications on their smartphone and also get alerts of different vaccinations and medication intake reminder.
The Apple Watch sensor will play a pretty important role here. There will be a weekly challenge where the participants will be able to see healthy behavior. Users will be able to collect different points by completing their daily and their weekly tasks and they will be rewarded with some kind of rewards or gift cards from major retailers.
