Character stats for Street Fighter 5’s final Capcom Cup Last Chance Qualifier tournament

After almost exactly 7 years after the game came out, Street Fighter 5 is preparing to ride off into the sunset, but not before they get 1 more massive event to go through to declare its last world champion.

With the absolutely stacked Last Chance Qualifier tournament for Capcom Cup 9 just wrapped up, we decided to take a look at the character usage stats for one of the last big SF5 brackets to see which fighters are still making an impression here in 2023.

We broke down the entire top 32 of the LCQ, which equates to the top 22% of players who actually showed up to compete, and there were some unexpected surprises found within.

Despite Luke being hailed as the absolute best character in SF5 for the past year, we only saw 2 players make it to the upper bracket with him, and only Rohto|Tokido managed to crack the top 8.

In fact, it appears the reports of Urien’s demise may have been a bit exaggerated considering he tied with M. Bison as the most popular pick, and all 3 of them reached at least the top 12.

Beyond that though, we’re continuing to see a nice spread of picks across the cast with 21 characters seeing main play during the top 32, and only 8 of them were repeats.

This LCQ gave us the chance to see some fighters perform well that we don’t get to see as much of as of late including AZ|Kichipa-mu coming in second place using Alex and Zangief plus some other fun choices like Oro, Menat, Blanka and Ryu.

That still leaves about half of the cast who didn’t receive representation, but those numbers are about as good as you can hope for in this type of hyper-competitive setting.
