Samsung is the first to adopt Corning’s new Gorilla Glass protection in the smartphone industry. A few months ago, Corning unveiled Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which promised to be more shatter-resistant while maintaining the same scratch resistance. Corning has confirmed that the next-generation Galaxy smartphone will be the first to feature Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
This means the Galaxy S23 series will have Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on its front and back. This new protective panel uses a special glass composition, which offers improved drop performance on rough surfaces such as concrete. Gorilla Glass Victus 2 is said to be able to withstand a drop from waist height onto concrete and a head-level drop onto the tarmac.
Corning also highlighted that Gorilla Glass Victus 2 focuses on the environment, achieving an Environmental Claim Validation for containing an average of 22% pre-consumer recycled content, which has been verified by UL (Underwriters Laboratories).
Stephanie Choi, Executive VP and CMO of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics commented, “Our next generation of Galaxy flagship smartphones are the first devices to use Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, offering better durability and improved sustainability at the same time.”
