Rumors of a Resident Evil 4 remake have been circulating for some time, and Capcom officially announced the game in June 2022. This new version of the classic game will feature updated controls and combat, while keeping the same basic story and characters. Players will again take on Leon’s role as he travels to a rural part of Western Europe to save the President’s daughter and gets caught up in a whole lotta campy, horrific shenanigans.
However, some fans have noticed something strange in the early gameplay footage released by Game Informer: the rain looks a bit off. On Reddit and Twitter, many players have compared the rain to the infamously awful rain seen in the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: Definitive Edition. That rain was so bad-looking, it made the game nearly unplayable during storms, and was eventually improved by the devs via a post-release patch.
Here’s the rain that’s causing such a kerfuffle:

Some think the rain is too intense and distracting, and that YouTube’s awful video compression isn’t helping. Others believe people are being too nitpicky and that the real problem is the video compression. While it’s true YouTube’s compression is likely not helping the rain look good, it’s easy to see how some might find the large and distinct white drops of water to be too much.
Of course, this being the internet and gamers, some people are going too far and suggesting the devs are lazy or that this is a sign the entire game will be a giant, rushed “cash grab.” That is completely silly and asinine. Remember: None of us have played the game yet, which isn’t even finished.
Resident Evil 4 is due out March 24, 2023 on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Maybe it should include a rain intensity slider. Until then, it’s impossible to know for sure if the rain in the remake will be as bad as some people fear.
